By Eva Kalavri…
“It’s a good day to glow”, Angeliki and Stefania, the girls of A²SK beauty, often urge us in their stories and posts! Every time I see it I smile and think “yeah, they’re right, it’s the perfect day to shine…!”. Even though the office “swallows” me later!
Our skin, how it looks and how it (inevitably) ages, is affected by various factors, with diet and lifestyle playing important roles. You will tell me it is also the genes and I will agree, however we cannot influence them!
Prolonged exposure to the sun (without or even insufficient protection), smoking and a diet that includes processed foods and unnecessary sugar, as well as dehydration caused by excessive caffeine and alcohol, will, over time, take a toll on the health of our skin significantly.
So apart from cosmetic care, which we have taken care of here on our site, our diet can do the job… from the inside! Hydrating foods, rich in vitamins, can boost the health of our skin and make it really glow! At the same time they are protection against the harmful effects of solar exposure.
And since we are lucky enough to go through the summer season with plenty of fruits and vegetables getting their due, I urge you to:
Eat a Rainbow!
Add color and freshness to your plate! Brightly colored fruits and vegetables can be a protective shield and help you shine.
B CAROTINE, LYCOPENE, VITAMIN C
Lycopene is an antioxidant and our skin’s natural SPF. We find it abundantly in red and orange fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, watermelons, papayas.

Lycopene is an antioxidant and our skin’s natural SPF. We find it abundantly in red and orange fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, watermelons, papayas.
A healthy diet of foods rich in beta-carotene, such as carrots, tomatoes, red peppers, sweet potatoes, mangoes, cantaloupe, and apricots, increases vitamin A levels, helps maintain healthy skin, and has been linked to enhanced sun protection (many sunscreen companies use the substance in their cosmetics).
Vitamin C is vital for the production of collagen and is found in citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, but also in kiwis, broccoli, pineapple, yellow peppers…
Let’s remember that in addition to fresh fruit juice, consuming them whole with their fiber helps the body absorb sugars more slowly in the bloodstream.
What do we avoid?
Sugar, bad fats and alcohol as they damage skin cells, slow blood circulation and age us, respectively!
We suggest ideas for colorful healthy meals and we are waiting to hear your suggestions:
- We add pieces of grapefruit or orange to muesli or yogurt and thus strengthen our skin with a natural vitamin C supplement.
- Cut fresh tomatoes with ripe avocado and accompany with an olive oil-based dressing.
- We make a “sun-friendly” smoothie for breakfast with melon and mango!
